Close Friends are a vibe, the people you want to share exclusively with.
But what if you could share posts and Stories only visible to them?
Wouldn't that be neat. 👀

Hello World!
Or maybe he could tolerate being with Trump for only so long....
Unusual Rest Breaks for Xi Jinping Sucked Hours Out of Summit With Trump https://www.wsj.com/world/china/xi-jinping-health-caf250f1?st=3vnxAb
@jeffjarvis Pretty genius move from Xi. Other leaders take note!
One last post before bed, been a wildly productive night btw, so I'm working on a new FEP for Stories!
Stories are not just ephemerial posts that get deleted after 24h, they can also contain interactive layers (like mentions, hashtags, polls, urls) that require support across UI and federation.
We also send StoryView activities to inform the author about who viewed it, and it works great.
Replies are DMs that show the Story and "x replied to your story".
More deets soon!

“The use of AI by agents — that is the buying of tokens from large language models (LLMs) — went past human usage by volume in February and has since increased 14-fold while human token buying has merely tripled, according to Open Router, an LLM marketplace. Agents now use five times as much AI as humans and that gap is continuing to widen rapidly.”
"I am aware, that if you are not lurking on the internet as much as I do, of how utterly insane that paragraph sounds. However, every bit of it is heavily documented by numerous sources. The people in this story are not a secret society coordinating over dinner. They are a social scene: overlapping friendship groups, funding relationships, and sexual and romantic relationships, all of it threaded through the institutions asking you to trust them about AI regulation."

A quick update on my Linux oled_address project...
Since WiFi DHCP can take a bit of time to resolve after boot, I added logic to wait for the address to resolve before displaying the info. Otherwise it would just display the network name and nothing else.
My little gremlin monster was just found hatched in an upside down kiddy pool in someone's garage and I was like OK then I'll be having that one
@jonny The little gremlin monster distribution system works in mysterious ways. But it does work.
Hey #UnionPlace family! I need your help.
We've got about 230 active users. The cloud hosting bill for the instance is a bit over $500/mo. We're down to about $100/mo of income from people-who-are-not-me.
That means I'm out of pocket $400+/mo to keep this going, and that's not super sustainable, even with my employer's non-profit matching cutting that in half.
I don't want to shut down the instance, but I can't keep up this level of funding either. What does the community think?

We could try a migration to masto.host, which (might) drop our hosting costs. Our database is pretty big, though, so unless we trim out a lot of remote history (which we probably COULD do, but isn't well-supported), it'd actually wind up not that much cheaper.
More people could donate... https://www.laborunionnetworking.org/donate/
We could try to find some "corporate" sponsorship perhaps from a friendly union organization (if you know of one, my ears are open!)

Naw, still extremely sad, still bursting into tears every couple of hours. I just poked my head back up and looked at the news - which rewarded me by showing me Jacob Reese-Moog's extremely punchable face again for some reason (interview with Tucker Carlson in which Russia, Putin and Hitler came up a lot so you know THAT ended well...)

Doing my last exam during a fire alarm sure adds extra stress… with half of the allowed time lost still passed
I am proud to say I am now a licensed Zugbegleiter Switzerland 🥰🔥 lucky @OV had the pin ready and you might see me between Basel and Chiasso soon 🚂
I think it would be neat if Nextcloud had an "app" that was a Mozilla Sync server for your browser settings and bookmarks.
@c0debabe Nextcloud Bookmarks Sync for bookmarks. Nothing for settings, sadly.
